I started volunteering with Next Generation Focus in early 2018. I had no teaching experience (my background in business is HR and Payroll) but was retired and wanted to serve the community that is served by my Church. I felt I could help students with their reading homework and get to know them and their families. I helped the Director during the summer school program and the work required when the organization received a grant for the upcoming fall school program. I am now the Site Coordinator at our Norcross location performing office duties, along with greeting students, teachers and teen volunteers. We offer a safe learning location for our students. I also participate in classes when needed and have learned a lot about children who are our future and deserve every opportunity our community can offer them.
