November 17, 2017 – Cumming, GA – Next Generation Focus is pleased to announce it has received a $5,000 grant from United Way of Greater Atlanta. These funds will support the NGF’s SmarterMe® programs.
SmarterMe® Academy and Summer Program aim to help K-8 students from low-income families who are significantly behind in reading and math in their respective classes. SmarterMe® Programs provide students with subsidized tutoring on reading, math and other grade-appropriate subjects, as well as STEM enrichment activities. During the SmarterMe® Academy Program students attend sessions four times a week, on weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings during the school year. During SmarterMe® Summer Program students attend classes during the summer months to retain what they have learned during the school year.
“This is a transition year from the previous funding factors (education, health, income, and homelessness) to our current focuses of food insufficiency, homelessness, early learning/family childcare, and project health access,” said Tracy Christian, the Regional Coordinator of Northeast Region of United Way of Greater Atlanta. “We appreciate NGF’s recognizing the transition and making an effort to align with our new goals. Members of Gwinnett Advisory Board reviewed NGF’s application and had decided to award the grant to NGF”.
“We are excited by the decision to award of United Way Gwinnett. We are mindful of the changing priorities of our funders, and do our best to align our program with the new objectives,” said Amy Sol, the Executive Director of Next Generation Focus. “We look forward to working with United Way Gwinnett closely to achieve our mutual objectives in early learning.”
